FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Online Therapy?
Online Therapy is a way of delivering psychotherapy services to consumers via the internet. It’s also called, web-therapy, teletherapy, phone-therapy, and text-therapy. I offer HIPAA-compliant Telehealth services.
What are the Benefits of Online Therapy?
  • No need to travel anywhere. Sessions can be held wherever you feel comfortable.
  • For some people, Online communication is more comfortable.
  • Allows people, who traditionally couldn’t leave the house or drive due to having disabilities or chronic illness, to receive psychotherapy service at the comfort of their homes.
  • It’s cheaper.
  • It provides quality service to people, who live in rural areas, where it’s difficult to travel or where they might not have many counselors with the needed skills.
Is a Marriage Counseling Assessment truly necessary?
While we feel this information can be useful at times, we have found that the couple does not necessarily benefit. While it is good to know the state of the relationship coming in so it can be retested after successful therapy to see how far the couples has progressed, some assessments can bias the therapist before even meeting with the couple. In a solution-based therapy where you are trying to solve problems or even diagnose one spouse or the other, an assessment can provide you with valuable information.
When should I go to Couples Therapy?
  • You or your partner or both have started to withdraw/detach emotionally
  • You don’t know how to communicate with one another.
  • The two of you use 4 horsemen of the apocalypse with each other, daily.
  • Your fights often escalate out of control.
  • Your sex life is non-existent.
  • You or your partner is struggling with sexual dysfunction.
  • You don’t trust each other.
  • You no longer enjoy/spend your time together.
  • You no longer feel safe to talk about your problems or feelings with your partner.
  • You often fight in front of your kids.
  • You read all the relationship books and tried everything else but still feel stuck.
  • Or you and your partner have a pretty amazing relationship and want to learn how to maintain it.
What is EFT?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is a structured approach to couples therapy formulated in the 1980’s and has developed alongside the science on adult attachment and bonding to expand our understanding about what is happening in couple relationships and to guide therapists. In the last fifteen years, Dr. Johnson and her colleagues have further developed and refined the model and completed numerous studies. EFT is also used with families and individuals. Studies find that 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery and approximately 90% show significant improvements. EFT is being used with many kinds of couples in private practice, university training centers and hospital clinics and many different cultural groups throughout the world. These distressed couples include partners suffering from disorders such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorders and chronic illness.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is an ability to observe thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environments without any judgment or attempts to change them. According to recent research, some of the benefits of practicing mindfulness are, reduced rumination, stress reduction, boosts to working memory, better focus, less emotional reactivity, more cognitive flexibility, and increased relationship satisfaction.
Testimonials
Happy customers.
“We are forever grateful to you! The suggestions in your marriage program are working so well, even with our infidelity situation. Outbursts due to the rupture from affair are becoming less frequent!”

Miriam R. Davis

“Thank you for working with us in such a kind, compassionate, competent manner and helping to give us hope – hope that not only can our marriage survive, but actually thrive, flourish and become healing rather than destructive.”

Randall Stanfield

“This two days session of work helped me to understand and realize there is a way, a way to a new you. Where I can be happy again. Thank you Allison.”

Lionel Lee

“What I liked best about this presentation was that there were demonstrations, explanations, and opportunities to practice. Without the practice, the presented information may have just remained theoretical and many couples may not even try to do it on their own when they leave and would never see the benefit of it.”
